Beatriz Ferreira Advances In World Women’s Boxing Championship

Defending world champion Beatriz Ferreira of Brazil and home favorite Busenaz Sürmeneli of Turkey both advanced to the quarterfinals on day seven of the International Boxing Association World Women’s Boxing Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.
In the round of 16 for the under-60 kilogram division, the Brazilian Ferreira earned a unanimous decision victory over the Chilean Valentina Bustamente, bringing her one step closer to reclaiming her title.
When Sürmeneli provoked an abandonment early in the second round of the under-66 kilogram match against Akira Skoog of the United States of America, the fans went into a frenzy.
During the early stages of their fight for the under-52 kilogram weight class, Charley Davison of England and Hainite Kayla Tuitupou of Tonga brought the referee’s attention to the need for a stoppage.
Carly McNaul of Ireland continued her strong run of success by earning a victory via split decision over Nikolina Cacic of Croatia in the same weight category. The final score was 4-0.
Zareen Nikhat was determined throughout her fight against Yesugen Oyuntsetseg, the Mongolian, and she was rewarded with a unanimous victory for her efforts.

Estefani Almanzar of the Dominican Republic advanced to the next round of the under-54 kilogram competition by prevailing in a hard-fought split decision match against Sirine Charaabi of Italy by a score of 4-1.
In yet another match that was decided by a narrow margin, Romania’s Lacramioara Perijoc prevailed over Ireland’s Niamh Fay. The final score was 3-2 in favor of the Romanian competitor.
In the same category in world boxing, Jelena Zekic of Serbia prevailed over Nozimakhon Bulturova of Uzbekistan thanks to a decision that was reached by unanimous vote.
Imane Khelif of Algeria won the under-63 kilogram competition against Beatris Rozentale of Latvia with a score of unanimous decision. Amy Broadhurst of Ireland defeated Aslahan Mehmedova of Bulgaria and also won by a score of unanimous decision.
Following her victory against her Venezuelan opponent Krisandy Rios by a score of unanimous decision, American boxer Rashida Ellis continued to demonstrate why she could be considered a serious challenger for the under-60 kilogram division crown held by Ferreira.
Alessia Mesiano, who had previously won the world championship in 2016, was successful in this category as well, defeating Kiria Tapia of Puerto Rico by a unanimous vote.
After a violent fight with Shona Whitwell of England, Natalia Sandrina of Serbia was declared the winner and advanced to the next round. The match ended with a score of 5-0.
Aside from Sürmeneli’s victory, Turkey’s day was full of ups and downs in terms of its performances.
While Buse Naz akrolu defeated Roumaysa Boualam of Algeria with a score of 5-0 in the under-50 kilogram division, Hatice Akbaş defeated Ekaterina Sycheva of Armenia with ease in the under-54 kilogram division. Buse Naz akrolu is an World Olympic and world silver medalist.
In the under-63-kilogram competition, the Greek Olga Papadatou prevailed against the Turkish Gizem Ozer and received a unanimous decision victory.
This came as a direct result of Beyza Saraco’lu’s elimination from the competition in the under-52 kilogram weight class, when she was defeated by Caroline de Almeida of Brazil via unanimous decision.
